MSCI World Index: The MSCI World Index is a broad global equity index that represents large and mid-cap equity performance across all 23 developed markets countries. It covers approximately 85% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization in each country. The MSCI ACWI Index, MSCI’s flagship global equity index, is designed to represent performance of the full opportunity set of large- and mid-cap stocks across 23 developed and 26 emerging markets. As of December 2019, it covers more than 3,000 constituents across 11 sectors and approximately 85% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization in each market. MSCI has been at the forefront of index construction and maintenance for more than 40 years, launching its first global equity indexes in 1969. The MSCI All Country World Index (ACWI) is a market capitalization weighted index designed to provide a broad measure of equity market performance throughout the world. The MSCI All Market Indexes are designed to represent the performance of the broad equity universe of individual countries, while including a minimum number of constituents. The MSCI Index is a measurement of stock market performance in a particular area. MSCI stands for Morgan Stanley Capital International. MSCI Barra now manages the 160,000 indexes. Like other indexes, such as the Dow Jones Averages or the S&P 500, it tracks the performance of the stocks included in the index. The MSCI World Index captures large and mid cap representation across 23 Developed Markets (DM) countries*.
